Still accepting signatures

Yes, you can still sign!

We delivered the first round of signatures to the city council on August 7TH, 2020. We will continue to send new signatures as they come in.

We’re ready to tell the Texarkana Texas City Council that it’s time to remove the symbols of the Confederacy from Downtown Texarkana. We’re counting on YOU to add your name to the list!

NOTE: You must live in the city limits of Texarkana Texas to sign this petition.

Still on the fence?

Some folks are worried that our goal is to erase history. This could not be further from the truth. Monuments to the Confederacy were built in an attempt to re-write the history of the Civil War. The Daughters of the Confederacy framed the war as a fight for states’ rights. The truth is that preserving the institution of slavery was the driving force behind the south’s secession from the union. Slavery was even protected by the Confederate States Constitution:

the institution of negro slavery as it now exists in the Confederate States, shall be recognized and protected by Congress, and by the territorial government: and the inhabitants of the several Confederate States and Territories, shall have the right to take to such territory any slaves lawfully held by them in any of the states or territories of the Confederate states.

Confederate States Constitution – Ratified March 29, 1861

We would encourage you to take a few moments to watch the following videos to learn about the Daughters of the Confederacy and Confederate Monuments.
